Autumn Term 2025
Art Around the World
During the day, we learnt about Yayoi Kusama from Japan, creating dotty pumpkin designs that encouraged mindfulness through repetition. We explored Paul Klee’s abstract landscapes from Switzerland, building colourful shape collages and experimenting with colour theory. Children also engaged with Frida Kahlo from Mexico, producing self-portraits set against symbolic backgrounds featuring animals, plants, and personal imagery. We celebrated Aboriginal pattern art from Australia, learning about indigenous symbols while creating dot paintings of animals and mandalas. The bold cut-out collages of Henri Matisse from France encouraged exploration of shape, layering, and colour contrast, while the vibrant abstract expressionism of Alma Thomas from the USA inspired children to experiment with mosaic-like brushstrokes inspired by nature.
